Luke Ferguson, the new Youth Director at Hopeland, preaches about God's all-consuming fire. Luke explains that in Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the Israelites not to forget that God was the one to bring them out of slavery, that God was the one who brought them across the Red Sea, that God was the one to show them to the Promised Land. He cautions against becoming complacent in their wandering, just as Luke cautions us against our complacency in our own culture today.

Luke 24: 30-32 30

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Deuteronomy 4: 23-24

Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden. 24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
